Russia has increased the export quotas for Russian producers of mineral fertilizer by almost 700,000 tons and that of nitrogen fertilizers was increased by 231000 tons, media reports said.

The export quota for complex fertilizers has been increased by 466000 tons, ET reported.

This will ensure supply to India which has been grappling with fertilizer shortage.

According to the ET report, Russian officials said these measures will protect the domestic manufacturers who face poor demand in the domestic market and sanctions due to the Ukraine war.

Fertiliser Secretary Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi said India has received fertiliser shipments of 3.60 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) from Russia since it invaded Ukraine.

He said India has received fertiliser shipments have been received before and after the “current geo-political situation”.

“In December last year, we entered into a C2C (corporation to corporation) supply arrangement with Russian companies for 2.5 LMT DAP/NPK every year for 3 years. Woh usko honour kar rahe hain aur usme se hum ko supply lagatar prapt ho rahi hai (They are honouring that and we have been receiving supply continuously),” he was quoted as saying by ET.

Russia had assured additional quantities of DAP (4LMT), MOP (10 LMT) and NPK (8 LMT), according to the report.
