Sensex down by over 200 points

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex Wednesday tumbled 243 points to 58,610.04 in the opening session as selling was seen across the board.

The Nifty too slipped 54.80 points at 17,470.30.

The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 58,984 and 58,583 points respectively.

The Nifty registered the day's high and low at 17,566.10 and 17,442 respectively.

The Mid Cap fell 0.32 per cent and Small Cap by 0.24 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 9 advanced while 21 declined.

The losers were NTPC by 2.51 per cent to Rs 155.20, Wipro by 2.04 per cent to Rs 427.05, Bajaj finance by 2.02 per cent to Rs 7,195.05 and HCL Technology by 1.75 per cent to Rs 949.15.

The gainers were ICICI Bank by 1.55 per cent to Rs 849.40, Sun Pharma by 1.20 per cent to Rs 921.45, Bharti Airtel by 0.66 per cent to Rs 709.09 and Powergrid by 0.43 per cent to Rs 222.65.
