Sensex drops 523 points

The BSE Sensex on Monday tumbled down 523 points to close at 71'072.49 as selling was seen in utilities, telecommunications, real estate, and power stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) dropped 166.65 points to 21,616.05.

The NSE registered days high and low at 21,831.70 and 21,574.75 pts respectively.

The Sensex opened at 71,722.31', rising 127 pts. During the day, it surged to 161 pts' days high. In late trade, it was ranked 673 points at 70,922.57' days low before closing at 71,072.49, sliding 523 points from its previous close.

The stocks that dragged the market were utilities, real estate, and power stocks.

Utilities fell 3.60 pc, followed by Telecommunications by 3.44 pc, Realty by 3.01' Power by 2.90 pc.

The Mid Cap eased 2.62 pc and the Small Cap by 3.16 pc.

In 30 scrips, 8 advanced while 22 declined.

The losers were Tata Steel by 2.76 percent to Rs 137.40, NTPC by 2.72 percent to Rs 316.05, SBI by 2.26 percent to Rs 707.90, and IndusInd Bank by 2.20 percent to Rs 1452.95.

The gainers were Wipro by 2.26 p.c. to Rs. 501.40, HCL Technology by 2.09 p.c. to Rs. 1666.15, M&M by 0.86 p.c. to Rs. 1661, and Infosys by 0.61 p.c. to Rs. 1679.80.
