With 25 lakh interviews in the last qtr, Kolkata among top destinations for professionals

With around 12 lakh job openings, Kolkata recorded more than 25 lakh plus interviews (September December’2021) for various job roles across sectors and industries, emerging as a popular destination amongst job seekers, according to apna.co.

The jobs and professional networking platform said witnessed a 104 percent increase in job vacancies in the last quarter (October-December’21) in comparison to the July-September’21.

"West Bengal has been a prominent market for companies to reach users in Eastern India, making its capital- Kolkata, a job creation center," Apna.com stated in a press note.

Users from across West Bengal and North East India were seen applying for jobs in Kolkata, the job portal said.

Out of all the users who applied for a job in the last three months, 48 percent of them had an education qualification of 12th pass or under.

"apna has been on a mission to empower each job seeker in the state with equal access to opportunities despite their education qualification, gender and socio-economic background. The platform has become a default choice for 10 lakh & counting professionals in Kolkata," the company said.

Another key trend that emerged during this period was the increasing participation of women users. 30 percent of the jobs applied in Kolkata in the last 90 days were by women users in the city.

Women have been interviewing for a variety of roles including telecallers, back office, receptionists, HR, data entry etc.

"Women in Kolkata were also actively engaging on apna communities such as government jobs, business exams, learning languages, telecaller, receptionist/front desk and back-office jobs, teacher, computer/data entry, and beauticians.apna has become a trusted partner for 2.5 lakh women users from the city," the company said.

Commenting on the growth, Manas Singh, Chief Business Officer, apna.co said, “Kolkata has been witnessing a quarter on quarter increase in job openings, making it a popular destination amongst job seekers. We will continue our efforts towards empowering more people by connecting with more hyperlocal jobs and making Kolkata one of the largest employment hub in the country”.

"Companies including Swiggy, Zomato, Rapido, Urban Company, Flipkart, HDFC Life, Reliance Nippon Life Insurance, Kotak Life Insurance, Uber etc have been hiring their workforce in West Bengal through apna. apna has on-boarded over 16,000+ recruiters from Kolkata since its expansion in the city in March 2021," the company stated.
