Amid COVID-19 outbreak, China reports one bubonic plague case

Beijing/IBNS: Chinese authorities have enhanced precautions after one of its cities  confirmed a case of bubonic plague, media reports said.

According to state reports, the Bayannur patient - a herdsman - is now in quarantine and in stable condition, reports BBC.

Officials issued a Level 3 warning, the second lowest in a four-tier system, reported BBC.

Bubonic plague is one of three types of plague caused by bacterium Yersinia pestis. Several antibiotics are effective for treatment.

It is not clear how the patient got infected in the Chinese city.

The new case was first reported as suspected bubonic plague on Saturday at a hospital in Urad Middle Banner in Bayannur city, BBC reported.

The fresh report about the disease emerged at a time when the world is combating against COVID-19.

The virus is believed to have spread from China.
