Assam floods hit 2.60 lakh people of 16 districts
Guwahati/IBNS: The flood situation in Assam continued to deteriorate on Saturday with flood waters submerged new areas and over 2.60 lakh people of 16 districts of the state have been affected in current wave of the deluge.
More than 2.60 lakh people in 16 districts – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district have been affected in the current flood.
Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Majuli, Lakhimpur are worst affected districts where over 2.03 lakh people are affected.
Many people are facing hardships as flood waters entered their homes and they were forced to leave their homes and took shelter in relief camps and other safer places.
Over 9,000 people 16 villages at Narayanpur area in Lakhimpur district have affected in the fresh flood.
A local villager of Narayanpur area said many villages in the area have been affected after flood waters washed away a big ortion of 1 no Khaliamari bandh.
“We are now facing lot of problems. The entire crop lands are now under water,” the local villager said.
The flood waters have submerged over 19,300 hectares crop lands and affected 769 villages in the flood hit districts.
On the other hand, the water levels of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are rising and crossed danger level marks at many places in the state following incessant rains in Assam, neighbouring country Bhutan and some parts of neighbouring states.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Brahmaputra river is flowing above danger level at at Neamatighat in Jorhat district, Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Guwahati and Dhubri district while Burhidihing river flowing above danger level at Chenimari in Dibrugarh district, Dhansiri river at Numaligarh in Golaghat district, Jia Bharali at NT Road crossing in Sonitpur district, Puthimari river at NH Road crossing in Kamrup district, Pagladiya river at NH Road crossing in Nalbari district, Manas river at NH Road crossing in Barpeta district, Beki river at Road Bridge in Barpeta district and Sankosh river at Golakganj in Dhubri district.
