Bangladesh: Coronavirus death toll exceeds 100

Dhaka/UNI:  The number of novel coronavirus deaths in Bangladesh exceeded 100 on Monday after 10 more people died due to the virus in the past 24 hours.

During the period, the country recorded 492 new cases of COVID-19, the highest-single-day spike, taking the total number of such cases to 2,948, said Professor Nasima Sultana, ADG of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, samples of 2,779 people were examined. Out of them, 492 tested positive for COVID-19. A total of 10 people died from the virus. With this, the country's cases stood at 2,948, and deaths 101, the professor Nasima added.

In DGHS' regular bulletin on coronavirus, the official also said 10 more coronavirus patients recovered, raising the total recovery to 85.

As of Monday, a total of 26,604 people's samples were examined across the country, mentioned in the bulletin.

Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then, the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths.

COVID-19 first case emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 210 countries and territories.

At present, COVID-19 worldwide death toll stands at 165,903 while 2,415,370 people have been tested positive, according to Johns Hopkings Univesity.
