New Delhi, Jun 11 (UNI): Delhi continued to reel from intense heat on Tuesday with maximum temperature recorded at 46.9 degrees Celsius in the ridge area, seven notches above the season's average.

Despite a partly cloudy sky, the heat wave made its presence felt as Delhiites witnessed sultry weather through the day with the temperature dropping just slightly compared to that on Monday which was so far the hottest day of the season where mercury touched recorded high of 48 degrees Celsius in the past five years in the month of June at Palam.

However, the Met office has forecast possibility of rain or thunderstorm or dust storm in the coming 24 hours that might bring respite from the scorching heat.

For Wednesday, the Met office has forecast a partly cloudy with thunderstorm or duststorm accompanied with gutsy winds and light rain , that are likely to bring respite from the heat wave.

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Wednesday are likely to hover around 41 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively.

Air quality in the city was under the very poor category with an index value of 322 at 1700 hours according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

In the morning , the minimum temperature settled at 33.3 degrees Celsius recorded at the Palam centre.
