New Delhi: India's Bharat Biotech International Limited, which claimed to have created the country's first potential indigenous coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine, has said the first phase of testing it on 375 people has started, media reports said.

Hindustan, Hindustan Time’s sister publication, reported that Bharat Biotech has said that human trials of Covaxin started on July 15. The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company has jointly developed the vaccine with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology (NIV).

Twelve hospitals in different parts of the country are carrying out this test, reports Hindustan Times.

The indigenous, inactivated vaccine has been developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech’s BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) High Containment facility located in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, India.
