Former Assam CM and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi tests positive for COVID-19

Guwahati/IBNS: Former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi tested positive for COVID-19 virus.

The 85-year-old veteran Congress leader was tested positive for the novel Coronavirus on Tuesday night and he is now under home isolation.

Tarun Gogoi tweeted: “I have been tested Covid 19 positive yesterday. People who came in contact with me during Last few days they should go for Covid test immediately.”

On Tuesday, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Congress MLA Ajanta Neog were tested positive for COVID-19.

Assam has reported 1973 positive cases for the new virus in last 24 hours.

With the new cases the state tally has now gone up to 94,592.

Out of the new cases, 510 cases were detected in Kamrup (Metro) district, 149 cases in Cachar district, 132 cases in Jorhat district, 121 cases in Kamrup (Rural) district, 116 cases in Dibrugarh district.

Eight more persons died due to the deadly virus in the state in last 24 hours taking to the state death toll to 260.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “1973 #COVID cases detected today out of 34307 tests done in last 24 hours. Positivity Rate- 5.75%. Kamrup M- 510, Cachar- 149, Jorhat- 132, Kamrup (R)- 121, Dibrugarh- 116.”
