Paris/IBNS: Away from China, the first coronavirus death has been reported in the European country of France, media reports said.

A Chinese tourist has died in France after contracting the new coronavirus - the first fatality from the disease outside Asia, reported BBC.

The victim was an 80-year-old woman from China's Hubei province, according to French Health Minister Agnès Buzyn, BBC reported.

The tourist reportedly arrived in France on Jan 16.

She was reportedly quarantined in a Paris hospital.

Hong Kong, the Philippines and Japan had earlier reported three deaths due to coronavirus outside the Chinese mainland.

Over 1500 people have died since the outbreak of the coronavirus in China.

Wuhan city in the country remains the epicentre of the outbreak.
