"Ever since #Omicron became a 'variant of concern', guidelines were issued for the states to take precautionary measures. On daily basis, trajectory across the world, along with emerging evidences are being analyzed to identify priority actions," he said.

The Health Ministry asked people to avoid non-essential travel, mass gatherings and observe low-intensity festivities.

It was detected in South Africa for the first time last month.
