India-made Covishield cleared for travel to United States from November as of now: Reports

New Delhi/IBNS: As the United States will allow fully vaccinated air passengers to travel to the country from November, Serum Institute's Covishield has become the only Indian-made vaccine to find a place in the list of approved ones for now, media reports said.

India is also among the 33 countries from where fully vaccinated travellers will be allowed to enter the United States.

From November, the US will admit fully vaccinated air travelers from the 26 so-called Schengen countries in Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Greece, as well as Britain, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil.

The White House has clarified that the final decision on what vaccines would be accepted will be taken up by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The top medical body of the country has said that it considers a person "fully vaccinated" against coronavirus if they have been jabbed with any FDA-authorised vaccine or any those approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Vaccinated passengers will be required to show the proof of vaccination before travel and will not be required to quarantine on arrival.

So far, only seven vaccines have been approved for use by the WHO including Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Covishield (an Oxford-AstraZeneca formulation) and China's Sinopharm and Sinovac.

Another Indian-made vaccine 'Covaxin', developed by Bharat Biotech, has not yet been approved by the WHO nor the US FDA.
