India records over 48,000 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hrs, total tally mounts to 13.85 lakh

New Delhi/IBNS: India recorded a whopping 48,661 new infections of coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the country's overall tally to 1,385,522, the Union Health Ministry stated on Sunday.

The deaths recorded between Saturday and Sunday mornings were 705, taking up the fatalities' toll to 32,063.

The country presently has 467,882 active cases of the contagion.

The total number of people cured/discharged/migrated is 885,577 causing the recovery rate to be at 63.91 per cent so far.

Maharashtra, which remains the worst-hit in the country, reported 9,251 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the cumulative count in the state to 3,66,368 while fatalities mounted by 257.

Delhi, which was heavily affected by the virus, is slowly recovering from the grasp of the contagion as the national capital is now placed at the eighth position in terms of active cases.

Meanwhile, Karnataka is coming up the rank of worst-hit states as its total cases crossed over 90,000. Bengaluru alone reported 2,036 new cases taking its overall tally to 43,503.

In the last 24 hours, 72 people died of the virus in the state, including 30 from Bengaluru. The state's death count has reached 1,796.
