New Delhi/IBNS: In a spike in daily coronavirus cases, India added 12,885 infections while the toll went up by 461 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry stated Thursday.

In the same span of time, 15,054 COVID-19 patients have recovered taking the recovery percentage to 98.23%, the highest since Mar 2020.

The active cases now account for 0.43% of the total cases, the lowest since Mar 2020.

In a major step to immunise the country's adult population totally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday announced door-to-door anti-COVID-19 vaccination drive.

"Till now all of you have made arrangements for taking the people to vaccination centers. Now vaccines should be taken to every door, there should be a door-to-door vaccine," he said in the virtual meeting with the Chief Ministers and officials of states where the vaccine coverage is less than 50 percent.

Addressing a COVID vaccine review meeting shortly after his return from the Glasgow COP26 summit, Modi said religious leaders and youth organisations like National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme should also be roped in to boost the campaign.

Under the national vaccination drive, 107.63 crore anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses have so far been administered in the country.
