New Delhi/IBNS: In a spike in daily count of COVID-19 cases, India reported 22,431 new infections while the toll went up by 318 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said in a bulletin Thursday.

In the same span of time, 24,602 COVID-19 patients have recovered taking the recovery percentage to 97.95%, the highest since Mar 2020.

The active cases now account for 0.72%, the lowest since Mar 2020.

Under the national vaccination drive, which is the largest in the world, India has so far administered 92.63 crore anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses in the country, which has approximately 1.3 billion people.

Though the cases are more or less under control for the last several weeks, health experts are suggesting caution in merrymaking during the festival season, which is kickstaring in the coming week.

In West Bengal, where Durga Puja is celebrated widely, the Calcutta High Court has barred visitors from entering into puja pandals in a measure to avoid the spread of the contagion.
