New Delhi/IBNS: India added 8,309 new COVID-19 cases while the toll went up by 236 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry stated on Monday.

In the same span of time, 9,905 COVID-19 patients have recovered.

The recovery rate now stands at 98.34%, the highest since Mar 2020.

The active cases now account for 0.30% of the total infections, the lowest since Mar 2020.

Amid concerns over new coronavirus variant 'Omicron', first identified in South Africa, international passengers will have to furnish 14 days' travel history and also upload negative COVID-19 test results, the government announced on Sunday.

A mandatory seven-day home quarantine has been made compulsory for travellers, who test negative, from countries deemed 'at risk', the Union Health Ministry said.

In wake of the emergence of Omicron, the government issued revised travel guidelines, which will come into effect from Dec 1, for international passengers.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared Omicron a variant of concern.
