India sees spike in Covid-19 daily cases, reports over 16,000 infections in 24 hours

New Delhi/IBNS: India, which was witnessing a gradual decline in the Novel Coronavirus daily cases, on Thursday reported over 16,000 infections.

The country has reported 16,738 new cases taking the tally to 1,10,46,914.

With 138 deaths apparently occurring due to the contagion in the same period, the Covid-19 toll now stands at 1,56,705.

The total number of recoveries has touched 1,07,38,501 with 11,799 people successfully battling the infection in 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said two new variants of Covid-19 have been found in Maharashtra and Kerala, which are reporting massive daily cases over the last several days.

Maharashtra on Thursday reported over 8,000 Covid-19 cases, the highest in the last four months.

In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, the West Bengal government has reportedly made the RT-PCR test mandatory for air passengers arriving from four states, including Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana, from 12 pm on Feb 27 (Saturday).
