Indian Summer: New Delhi sizzles at 42.5 deg C

New Delhi, Jun 2 (UNI) The Delhiites on Sunday witnessed a hot day with the maximum temperature settling at 42.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal.

'Due to easterly winds at lower levels over northern parts of the country, severity of the heat wave very likely to decrease over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and Uttar Pradesh from today onwards,' the IMD said in a tweet.

'Yesterday, Heat wave conditions observed in some parts over East Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh and in isolated pockets over West Rajasthan, south Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Severe Heat Wave conditions were observed in some parts over West Rajasthan and at isolated pockets over East Rajasthan & East Uttar Pradesh; Heat Wave conditions were observed in many parts over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi,' it said.

There was partly cloudy sky during the day with the possibility of development of thunder lightning towards the evening, the MeT said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 30.8 degrees C, three notches above the normal.

There will be partly cloudy sky on Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperature likely to hover around at 43 and 30 degrees C.
