Kerala imposes fat tax on fast foods
Thiruvananthapuram, July 9 (IBNS): In a first for the nation, Kerala on Friday imposed a 14.5 percent fat tax on fast foods sold through branded outlets, reports said.
State finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac announced the development in accordance with WHO guidelines of promoting healthy eating.
Though a total eradication is unlikely to take place, the consumption rate is expected to drop.
