Kochi/UNI:  A 36-year-old man, who was admitted to the government Medical College Hospital, at Kalamassery here with suspected coronavirus infection, died on Saturday, though he was tested negative for the disease.

Kannur native, Jainesh, working in Malaysia for the last two-and-a-half years, had landed at the International airport here on Thursday midnight and was admitted in the isolation ward on Friday as he was suffering from cough and exhaustion.

A detailed check up revealed that he had breathlessness, pneumonia and suffering from ketoacidosis, a life threatening disease faced by persons with diabetes.

The blood samples were tested at the Virology Institute in Alappuzha for H1N1 and Covid-19. But he succumbed to the disease before getting the result of the second sample. He had tested negative for coronavirus infection yesterday.

Meanwhile, 17 persons have been put under observation in Ernakulam district over fears of coronovirus infection, out of whom eight were discharged.

The blood samples of five persons were sent to a laboratory in Alappuzha.

As many as 28 persons have been quarantined at home in this district. Official sources said.
