Kolkata: Apollo Gleneagles CEO Rupali Basu resigns

According to reports, her resignation letter has been accepted by the hospital authority.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Apollo Gleneagles, Rana Dasgupta, will be the interim CEO of the hospital located  on Kolkata's E.M. Bypass area.

However, Rupali Basu's reaction on her sudden resignation has not been received yet.

About a week ago, Apollo Gleneagles authority was accused of forcing a critical patient's family to surrender their Fixed Deposit (FD) papers before the privately-run hospital as they could not pay a huge treatment-bill.

Sanjay Ray, a 30-year-old man from Dankuni in West Bengal's Hooghly district, was injured in a road mishap on Feb 16 and was admitted in Apollo hospital that evening.

Apollo charged Rs 7.23 lakh rupees as the bill for treating the youth over seven days. When his family members tried to shift him to state-run SSKM hospital, Apollo allegedly demanded full payment to release Sanjay.

Sanjay Ray's wife Ruby Ray claimed that as they could not pay the entire amount that time, Apollo Gleneagles forced them to submit all documents related to their fixed deposit.

However, after surrendering all documents at the nursing home, Sanjay Ray was rushed to SSKM on Feb 23 night.

But it was too late, the 30-year-old reportedly passed away at SSKM, at midnight.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint, lodged by Sanjay's family, and after being directed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the state health department and the Kolkata Police started separate probes against the hospital.

Amidst the investigation, Apollo Gleneagles' CEO Rupali Basu stepped down from her post, triggering a new controversy.
