Kolkata: Several national and intentionally acclaimed doctors from India and abroad have assembled in Kolkata to participate in the two-day Medicon International conference where the clinicians will exchange ideas in the field of medical science.

The event beginning on Friday is organized jointly by Peerless Hospital and BK Roy Foundation,Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and West Bengal Chapter of Association of Physicians of India.

Medicon International, which is an international medical conference being hosted for the seventh year in Kolkata, has now become an annual event with wide acceptance in the medical fraternity.

This year the event is taking place in the city after a gap of two years due to COVID-19.

Dr. Sujit Kar Purkayastha, Patron of the Medicon International organising committee, said: "This year the conference will be addressed by a group of internationally and nationally acclaimed clinicians."

Speaking at the event, Medicon International organising committee President Dr. Asokananda Konar said: "The main purpose of the event has been to ensure exchange of ideas."

"The programme is designed in such a way that it also helps the post graduates to get some idea about the further course that they may study for their future career," he said.

During the press conference, Medicon International's organizing secretary Debasis Datta said: "I feel that this is a very unique conference. Here, we will have case based discussions."

"We are proud that we are able to conduct this conference for the past seven years," he said.

Andrew Elder, president, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, who is participating in the conference, said he will deliver his talk on the 'Lesson from COVID' where he will speak on five things that were learnt from the pandemic.

He said events like Medicon International give chances to members of the medical fraternity to gain 'education' which will help them to improve their own practice.

He will also deliver the 'Shyamal Sen Memorial Oration'.

Elder will also talk on the topic 'Ageing India: Challenges of the Silver Innings".

Kathleen White, Neurologist, Satyan Rajbhandari, Consultant Diabetologist and Endocrinologist and Caroline Scally, Cardiologist, are also participating in the two-day event.
