Monsoon to be ‘above normal’: Skymet

| | May 25, 2016, at 03:20 pm
New Delhi, May 25 (IBNS): Private weather forecasting company Skymet has predicted that India is going to experience ‘above normal’ Monsoon rains this year.

"It has forecast the Monsoon at 109% (error margin of +/-4%) of the long period average (LPA) of 887 mm for the four-month period from June to September,"  read the  Skymet website.

Jatin Singh, CEO, Skymet, was quoted as saying by the website, “The El Niño is tapering off and it will collapse after the onset of Monsoon. It is not likely to have an adverse impact on the Monsoon performance.”

The company further said that under the influence of the cyclone Roanu, Monsoon arrived before time over the Andaman and has also advanced further.

"Conditions are now favorable for its timely onset over Kerala," Skymet said.
