Nepal PM Oli says all Nepalis to get vaccine by end 2021

Kathmandu: All Nepalis will get vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of this year, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Sunday, assuring the country of the government’s effort to procure vaccines.

"Nepal should not worry about the availability of COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccines are being brought, they are arriving on a regular basis,” Oli was quoted as saying by The Himalayan Times newspaper.

He assured that the government was taking all steps to make new agreements to ensure vaccine availability to the majority of people. The government is committed to saving the lives of the people, Oli said today at the inauguration ceremony of a hospital in Kathmandu.

So far, over 3.1 million people have received at least a single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. On Monday, it will receive around 1.5 million Moderna Covid vaccines from the United States. China had donated around 1.8 million Sinopharm vaccines to the country. It is still negotiating a deal for commercial procurement of vaccines from China.

"Life is the first priority. It is a precious asset so its protection is a major duty", Oli said, asserting that the country has been hugely successful in controlling coronavirus despite limited health services and resources.

In reality, the Oli government has become increasingly unpopular for its disastrous handling of the second Covid wave.
