Odisha reports 2949 new covid cases, ten deaths in a single day

Bhubaneswar/UNI: Odisha reported 2949 covid positive cases and ten deaths due to the illness in the last 24 hours, taking the overall covid tally to 81479 with 419 deaths.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 1826 positive cases were detected from the quarantine centers from 30 districts while 1123 local contact cases were reported during the last  24 hours.

The state reported ten covid deaths, raising the total covid toll in the state to 419.

Ganjam district reported five deaths followed by two in Sundargarh and one each in Cuttack, Rayagada and  Nayagada district.

With the fresh five deaths, the toll in Ganjam rose to 174, highest in the state followed by Khordha (54), Sundargarh (28), Cuttack (25 ), Rayagada (21), Gajapati (17), Nayagada (12) and Puri (10).

Out of the 2949 positive cases reported from the state, Cuttack district accounted for the highest number of 589 cases followed by Khordha(474), Jajpur (215) Koraput (181), Ganjam (179), Mayurbhanj (156), Rayagada (143) and Sambalpur (104).

Official sources said till midnight of  August 23, as many as 13,63,620 samples have been tested in the state and 81,479 of them found infected with coronavirus of which already 54,505 have been recovered from the virus.

The state has  26,602 active cases under treatment in various covid hospitals.

According to the state government, covid-19 has so far claimed  419 lives while  53 covid patients have died due to reasons other than the infection.
