Kolkata, Aug 11 (IBNS): Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will launch Pradhan Mantari Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY) at Nazrul Manch in Kolkata on Aug 14, 2016, an official release stated.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to attend to event.

The PMUY scheme is being launched in the state to provide free-LPG connections to the BPL household families.

"Women from the BPL families having Aadhaar card, bank account and have their name registered in Social-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data will be provided this facility," the release said.

Speaking on the occasion, RN Mohapatra, General Manager, WBSO said, "With the dream of Prime Minister to make villages smoke free across the country specially in West Bengal, we are taking off this scheme in the state and will be covering all targeted beneficiaries."

"In West Bengal there are around 2.3 crore households and 1.06 core are target beneficiaries which are to be covered by 2019," Mohapatra added.

To carry the scheme forward and implement it on mass level, special Ujjwala Melas for distributing LGP connections will be organized to identified beneficiaries under PMUY at each distributorship from Aug 15 to 17, 2016, to mark the 70th Independence Day.

These melas will be organized at the LPG showrooms throughout the state to distribute connections to each and every beneficiary.
