Rains, snow lash parts of Kashmir valley including Gulmarg

Srinagar/UNI: Rains lashed plains including Srinagar while parts of Kashmir valley including Gulmarg received fresh snowfall overnight, officials said on Monday.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir received more than one foot of snow while the tourist resort of Pahalgam and frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara also experienced snowfall overnight, MeT office said.

MeT forecast is currently raining at most places of Kashmir valley and at a few places of Jammu, especially Chenab valley. Intermittent light Rain/Snow likely to continue till afternoon. Expect gradual improvement thereafter. The weather will remain “partially cloudy” on February 7-8.

It said there could be widespread light to moderate Snowfall/Rain at many places in J&K from February 9-11 and thereafter “no major” snowfall for subsequent one week, MeT office added.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir received 5.2mm rainfall, Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway 5.2mm of rainfall, Pahalgam in south Kashmir 7.9mm of rainfall and 2.0 Cms snowfall, Kupwara 7.0mm of rainfall and 5.0 Cms of snow, Kokernag 11.2mm of rainfall and ski resort of Gulmarg 38.7mm of rainfall and 35.0 Cms of snowfall during the past 24 hours till 0830hours today.

Amid cloudy weather, the minimum temperature shows an increase at most of the places in Kashmir as Srinagar settled at 1.8 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Monday.

Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national recorded at 1.6 degree Celsius against minus 0.4 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 3.1 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the year.

Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 0.3 degree Celsius against minus 5.4 degree Celsius a day ago. It was 6.0 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season for the valley of shepherds.

The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of minus 0.3 degree Celsius against 2.9 degree Celsius while Kokernag in south Kashmir was recorded at 1.1 degree Celsius against 0.0 degree Celsius a day ago.

The minimum temperature in Gulmarg recorded at minus 3.6 degree Celsius on Monday against minus 6.4 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 3.1 degrees above normal for the famous ski resort during this period of the season, MeT office said.
