Guwahati, Dec 23 (IBNS) : A day after a rhino was found poached, Assam forest department on Friday suspended seven forest guards of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), after they were found of being involved in negligence in duty, following the instruction by forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma.

KNP director Satyendra Singh said that following the rhino poaching incident in the national park on Dec 22, the forest minister instructed to suspend those forest guards who found negligence in duty.

“The department had suspended seven forest guards under Amkathoni and Daflang forest camp under the park,” the KNP director said.

The suspended guards are Amar Singh Deka, Prabin Saikia, Baba Saikia, Chinmoy Moholia, Joydeep Bakhari, Troilukya Gogoi and Nazrul Islam.

On Dec 22, poachers killed a male rhino inside the world heritage site under Bagori forest range office and managed to flee with its horn.

Kaziranga has lost 22 one horned rhinos which were poached in this year so far.

Meanwhile, the state forest minister had ordered the department officials to take stern action against poachers.
