Thailand's new COVID-19 infections dip to 15
Bangkok/Xinhua/UNI: Thailand's new COVID-19 infections on Sunday dipped to 15, compared to Saturday's 53 cases.
The Thai government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) also said that the number of in-patients has dropped to 277, the lowest in over a month.
No new fatalities were reported on Sunday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Thailand has now tallied 2,594.
"The oldest patient is 97 years old and the youngest is one month old. The little baby has already recovered and returned home," said CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.
He said measures to fight the virus, including social distancing practices and wearing masks, will be in place until at least early next year, quoting "that is the earliest possible time frame when a vaccine could be deployed to end the pandemic."
Of the 15 new infections, seven are in Bangkok, four in Phuket, two in Yala province, one in state quarantine in Chon Buri and one in Nakhon Pathom province.
Also, 207 Thai citizens from Australia and 168 from New Zealand have arrived back home on Sunday and will head straight to mandatory quarantine.
Taweesin also said that unfortunately people cannot go back to the way they used to live before the outbreak as there could be an explosion of new cases if the country lowers its guard.
"Our two-digit numbers of new cases does not mean the situation is under control," Taweesilp cautioned.
