Three poachers held with elephant tusks in Assam’s Baksa district
Guwahati/IBNS: Security forces have apprehended three poachers and seized animal parts including elephant tusks in Assam’s Baksa district.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Baksa district police and forest department launched an operation at Hapasara-Korebari area in Baksa district on Monday and apprehended three poachers from the area.
The nabbed poachers were identified as Madan Gayari, Binod Basumutari and Lankeswar Basumutari.
Security personnel recovered two elephant tusks weighing about 3.75 kg, a deer horn, one country-made run, ammunition and other items in possession from them.
A top police official of Baksa district said that, the nabbed poachers were involved in an elephant killing incident at Jamuguri forest area last month.
“The poachers kept hide the elephant tusks at home to sell it later. They were also involved in several wild animals killing incidents along Indo-Bhutan border,” the police official said.
Meanwhile, a cases has been registered at Simla police station.
