Uttar Pradesh: Prayagraj records first COVID-19 fatality

Prayagraj/UNI:  A patient, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, succumbed while receiving treatment at the Swaroop Rani Hospital here, Nodal Officer Dr Rishi Sahai said on Wednesday.

Dr Sahai said that the individual, who hailed from the Lakurganj area, had tested positive on May 1. He was admitted to the COVID-19 CHC hospital in Kotwa Bani. After the patient's health deteriorated, he was admitted to the Swaroop Rani Hospital (SRN).

He was put on the ventilator in the evening but he died, late Tuesday night. His body was sealed in a three-layer bag during the night itself which was later kept in the mortuary.

The samples of the family members of the deceased had been taken for testing and four people including his wife have also tested positive. All of them have been admitted to the Kotwa Bani hospital.

Prayagraj has recorded 15 COVID-19 positive patients out of which one foreign patient connected to the Tablighi Jamaat event has recovered. Following the death of one patient, there are now 13 active cases in the district.
