Kolkata/IBNS: A coronavirus-infected man has died in West Bengal's Howrah district, media reports said on Tuesday.

The total number of deaths due to COVID 19 infection in the state has now touched three.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 26 as the state reported three fresh active cases and another death due to novel coronavirus.

A 48-year-old woman from Howrah city, who died on Monday evening at Howrah district hospital, reportedly came out positive for novel coronavirus on Monday midnight.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man from Daspur in West Medinipur district, who is undergoing treatment at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, and two more persons, aged over 50 years, who are being treated at two private health facilities at Salt Lake and AMRI, have tested positive for Covid-19, taking the tally in the state to 26.

State health officials said that three novel coronavirus infected patients, including West Bengal's first Covid-19 positive case, had been cured as their second tests reports also came negative for Covid-19 and the will be shifted to mandatory 14-day home quarantine.

Even as the Indian government said the country is witnessing only 'local transmission' of the COVID-19 disease at present, the number of infected cases took a steep rise on Monday to reach 1315 and deaths mounted to 36, as per update at 9:45 pm.

According to the latest tally, India presently has 1156 active cases of Novel Coronavirus while 123 people have recovered. The country, meanwhile, completed the fifth day of its 21-day lockdown.

In Delhi alone, a jump of 25 cases has been recorded in the past 24 hours. The number of infected cases in the national capital stands at 97.

Over 300 people in Delhi have been admitted to different hospitals across the city following a gathering at a mosque which hosted visitors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Kyrgyzstan.

This comes as a man died and 10 more have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the event earlier this month.

Following the death, people started worrying about infection spread from the gathering of Tableeghi Jamaat preachers at Alami Markaz Banglewali Masjid in Nizamuddin in mid-March.

Meanwhile, 1.3 billion people across India are observing the 21-day lockdown called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop the spread of Coronavirus.
