Kolkata, Apr 25 (IBNS): Although named after the fictional town of Malgudi, everything else about the food festival Malgudi Days -- showcasing Chettinad cuisine from Tamil Nadu -- hosted by The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat is very real.

At the Malgudi Days food festival, on till April 29, you will get to sample the Chettinad cuisine as prepared in the kitchens of the Natukottai Chettiars, the principal community of the region.

The culinary tradition of the Chettiars reflects the vibrancy of the cuisine through generous use of fresh ground masalas, sun dried meats and salted vegetables owing to the dry weather of the region.

Chef Dinesh Kumar of Chennai (Sous Chef at Courtyard by Marriott, Chennai) has curated this special food festival for Kolkata.

The specially curated menu is displayed as part of the buffet at Seasonal Tastes, with numerous vegetarian and non- vegetarian options alongside made to order varieties.

To begin with, try out the ‘Paruppu Malli Rasam’, ‘Pineapple Rasam’, ‘Naatu Kozhi Rasam’ and ‘Mutton Milagu Rasam’ from among the soups.

Among the starters, two vegetarian and two non-vegetarian options will be available to guests. You may try dishes such as ‘Mushroom Pepper Fry’, ‘Mini Fried Idli’, ‘Masala Bonda’, or ‘Chinna Vengaya Rawa Pakoda’ among the vegetarian options and ‘Karaikudi Fried Chicken’, ‘Mutton Coconut Fry’, ‘Chettinadu Fish Fry’, or ‘Mutton Sukka’ among the non-veg options.

The main course also includes dishes such as ‘Kalan Pattani Chettinadu’, ‘Puthupatti Bonda Morru Kozhambu’, ‘Maangai Puzhi Curry’, ‘Chicken Chettinad’, ‘Manga Meen Kozhambu’, and ‘Madhurai Mutton Curry’.

Live-stations serve varieties of dosas and appams. There is also a Biryani station.

End the meal on a sweet note, with desserts such as ‘Mysore Pak’, ‘Semiya Payasam’, ‘Paruppu Poli’, ‘Sakkarai Pongal’ etc.
