Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunaal Roy Kapur inaugurate Mumbai Cerafest

Mumbai, Oct 31 (IBNS): CERAFEST-Mumbai's first ever ceramic pottery exhibition, put together by 22 leading potters of Mumbai, was inaugurated by Bollywood heart throb Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunaal Roy Kapur at Coomaraswami Hall, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in Mumbai on Friday.

CERAFEST as the name suggests is a festival to celebrate studio pottery and revive this historic art form. 22 leading potters from Mumbai have come together for the first time to showcase their extraordinary talent in pottery making through this exhibition which is on from Oct 31st to Nov 2nd (11 AM TO 7 PM). 

Studio pottery denotes that each artist have individually created these ceramic pieces and is extremely involved in the whole process.

Each one either self-taught or professionally trained in ceramic pottery have made an earnest effort to present varied dimensions to the art and give clay unique form, design and colour.

Just like how an imagination unfolds and a dream gets weaved, tryst with clay is equally mesmerising. CERAFEST is an attempt to bring the studio potters into the mainstream of the Visual art field and give Ceramics its due recognition.

In addition to showcasing creations, the exhibition is also having live workshops and training sessions under expert guidance. A lifetime opportunity for art aficionados to experience the soft, magical clay in its free form and create a masterpiece of their own.

The exhibition has renowned names like veteran Sandeep Manchekar, Anjali Aney, Sumathi Madhav, Shayonti Salvi, Rashi Jain, Tejashri Patil Pradhan, Shruti M., Khusboo Madnani, Devyani Smith, Suresh Prajapati, Vanmala Jain, Tejashree Sagvekar, Rashi Jain, Shalan Dere, Anshu Dorairaj, Raja Mohanty and many more artists.

The exhibition showcases an elaborate selection of Functional ceramics to abstract and figurative sculptures. Tall ceramic vases, soup bowls, plates and platters, jugs and mugs, colorful miniature magnets, jewellery, planters, lamps, tealights and thousands of other forms will keep viewers enthralled.

Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunaal Roy Kapur were extremely engrossed admiring the art. They were seen interacting with the potters and even tried their hand at pottery.

Kunaal Roy Kapur said, “It’s great to see these wonderful potters keeping the art form alive and kicking in our city. All of them unique in their style. I think it is a great opportunity for people to buy pieces of high quality handmade ceramics, the problem they will face is making their mind up on what to buy! Congratulations to the Cerafest team for bringing all these artist together. ”

The exhibition took off on Friday and will be on till Nov 2.
