British Council to present Globe Theatre's Hamlet in India via Livestream

| | Oct 14, 2015, at 04:29 am
Kolkata, Oct 13 (IBNS): The British Council on Tuesday announced that it will present for the very first time in India Hamlet by world renowned Globe Theatre.
Hamlet is acknowledged as Shakespeare’s greatest play, encompassing political intrigue, sexual obsession, philosophical reflection and violent action, tragic depth and wild humor. Hamlet is Shakespeare's 'poem unlimited', a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of his genius.

Directed by Dominic Dromgoole and Bill Buckhurst, Hamlet by Globe Theatre is a completely unprecedented theatrical adventure. This production is a young, fresh version of Shakespeare's classic tragedy of deferred revenge that teases out its latent streak of gallows humor and celebrates the exuberance and invention of its language. Just twelve actors perform over two dozen parts on a stripped-down wooden stage in a comparatively brisk two hours and forty minutes.

Rob Lynes, Country Director, British Council, India, says, “We are excited to partner with the Globe Theatre for the first time in India. It is one of the most renowned theatre companies in the world. The play will be web-cast nationally which is a first in itself. Cultural relations are pivotal to our work in India and this is another important step towards nurturing collaborations between UK and India. I am sure audiences across India will thoroughly enjoy this unique viewing experience.”

The performance on 18, October 2015 will take place at Ranga Shankara theatre in Bengaluru and British Council will livestream the performance. Hence, anyone anywhere in India with internet access, on any device (laptop/mobile etc) will be able to watch this full performance at http://blog.britishcouncil.org.in/hamlet-world-tour/
