New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi government on Monday issued a circular advancing the summer vacation in all schools in the national capital after announcing a six-day lockdown in view of an unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases.

The vacation, earlier scheduled from May 11 to June 3, will now commence from Tuesday and schools will remain shut till June 9, the order said.

"In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the summer vacation during Academic Session 2021-2022 is hereby rescheduled and will be observed from April 20 to June 9," the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in an official order.

During the vacation, the heads of schools have been authorised to call in the staff as per requirement for any school-related work but with strict adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour, the order added.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the imposition of lockdown in the national capital from 10 pm on April 19 to 5 am on April 26 amid a massive spike in the cases.

Kejriwal, while addressing a digital press conference, said all essential services will remain open during the six-day long lockdown, while a total of 50 people will be allowed to attend marriages.
