Eminent Rabindra Sangeet singer Sumitra Sen passes away in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Eminent Bengali Rabindra Sangeet singer Sumitra Sen passed away at the age of 89 here on Tuesday.

Sen breathed her last at her home at 4 am.

Sumitra Sen's daughter Srabani Sen, who is also a Rabindra Sangeet singer, posted on Facebook, "My mother passed away this morning."

Sumitra Sen was admitted to hospital last month after catching a cold, reports said.

She was later diagnosed with bronchopneumonia.

Mourning her demise, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I am expressing my condolences at the demise of eminent singer Sumitra Sen... Her demise has left an unfulfilling void in the music industry."
