India celebrates Children's Day

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IBNS): India on Monday celebrated the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary, also observed as Children's Day.

Though the international children's day is observed on Nov 20, India celebrates it on Nov 14, as a tribute to Pandit Nehru, who stated that children should be nurtured with love and care.

Children's Day is generally observed on a grand scale in many schools.

Greeting Pandit Nehru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary."

Congress Vice President and great grandson on Nehru, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Paying tribute to Pt Nehru. Today more than ever we remember those who truly gave their lives to this nation and its citizens."

Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi urged for the safety of children.

"Let's gift our nation's Future a beautiful Present. This #ChildrensDay, let's pledge for nutrition, education & safety for our children," she tweeted.

"#ChildlineHeroBantu to the rescue of a Child Bride. You too can be a hero by reporting any such case on #Childline1098," a subsequent tweet read.

Tech giant Google too celebrated the day with a dedicated doodle.
