India-China cultural tie marks this year's BJ Block Salt Lake Sarodatsav in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 14 (IBNS): With the greatest festival of Bengalis-Durga Puja ushering in, a community puja in Kolkata incorporated Chinese theme in the 35th year of their endeavour, which is seen as an attempt to strengthen the cultural tie between the two Asian neighbours.

Artists from China performed at the inauguration of the Puja while Chinese Consul General in Kolkata Ma Zhanwu suprised all with his'Tai Chi' moves even as  his wife Yang Li played the musical instrument 'Pipa'.

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tipathi inaugurated the BJ Block Salt Lake Sarodatsav along with Consul Generals of China and Myanmar.

Local mayor of Bidhannagar Sabyasachi Dutta and head Purohit of Puri Temple Rajesh Doityopoti Mohashoi, Councillor of ward 41 Anindo Chattopadhyay, were present too.

Consul General of China Ma Jhanwu addressed the media on the occasion emphasising on cultural and educational exchanges between the two nations.

The Consulate was approached by the organising puja committee in March. Five artists from West Bengal went to Yunan province of China and received training.

The Consulate had arranged sponsors for the trip and their stay. 40 artists from China came to West Bengal to assist and perform.

According to the organizers people to people exchange will increase and both cultures will benefit.

"This puja will promote bilateral relations, friendship, cultural exchanges and co-operation," they said.
