India Green, Khushee host an innovative art exhibition to help street dwellers
The organizers, India Green Pvt. Ltd. vouched their support towards the development of street children, providing them with food, shelter and education through Khushee, a Non Governmental Organisation.
The paintings ranged in between RS. 7000 and Rs. 50, 000.
Speaking on the undertaken initiative, the doyenne of Indian Classical Music, Girija Devi heaped lavish praise on the conductors.
“I felt very happy upon receiving the news,” she said.
The Padma awardee added, “We often come across good humanitarian works, but this is on another level, it is much bigger.”
The Queen of Thumri’ expressed her delight and extended her support to help create a wider awareness.
“The initiative that they (the organizers) have taken to help the street dwellers is a huge leap and deserves a better recognition. I am all for it and will do my bit to extend the support.”
Girija Devi said, “For the last 65 years I have been travelling all over the world and have seldom come across such noble thoughts. This is truly special and I take this opportunity to thank the organizers. I wish them well.”
Sankhajit Jana, a Kolkata based painter told IBNS: “I have submitted eight paintings. One has already been sold out.”
When asked about a particular painting, he said: “This depicts the scene from ‘Kaliya-daman’. Krishna is a unique character, he is a concept. We all can be Krishna, he resided within us all.”
Suvajit Das, a budding painter from Kolkata who had put up a singular piece of his work, said: “As you can see I have used a lot of vibrant colors, it captures the mood of ‘Vasanta’ (spring) perfectly. I have purposely used a dark blue tinge to depict Krishna and a much lighter tone for Radha because Krishna here is the night; Radha enhances him with her glow.”
Malay Chandan Saha, a viewer, taking time from his visit, said: “I am a painter myself and looking at the paintings here I must thank everyone. I can see a lot of vibrant colors. Krishna is ever youth, he defines age and creed. To hold an exhibition solely on such a figure you need an ambience and I’m very happy with the efforts that have been put in.”
