Institution of Engineers celebrates "Engineers' Day"

Kolkata, Sept 15 (IBNS): The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI], India's oldest and largest professional body of engineers, today celebrated 'Engineers’ Day' - birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

The Institution organised thematic discussions across the country on contemporary themes of national relevance.

On the occasion of the 155th Birth Anniversary of Doyen of Indian Engineering, IEI took a noble initiative to promote the ethical practices of Engineering Profession. It invited qualified engineers of the country to become corporate members of the Institution and thereby to be known as ‘Chartered Engineers’.

IEI encouraged the engineers to contribute to nation building by practicing engineering with an overarching framework of ethics. This will help deploy engineering advances for societal needs in a fair, honest, and transparent manner.

“The institution also urged all the central/state government ministries/departments, union/state public service commissions, public sector organizations, private sector industries and infrastructural organizations to recruit ‘Chartered Engineers’,” read a statement issued by the organization.

On this occasion, L. V. M. Reddy,  President, IEI, said that the National Missions launched by the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi including “Make in India”, “Digital India”, “Skill India” present significant opportunities for the Engineering fraternity to leverage knowledge as the currency of national economy, deploy contemporary and emerging technologies; and interdisciplinary engineering developments thereby contributing to the success of these major programmes in the Mission Mode and participating in the nation building.
