Jammu and Kashmir: NIT Srinagar switches to online mode, postpones all exams
Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has switched to online mode of education for all undergraduate, post graduate students besides the scholars enrolled in the institute.
The decision has been taken in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases. COVID-19 cases were reported from NIT Srinagar as well. Dean Academic Affairs NIT on Tuesday issued a notice to all the students and scholars that all the academic activities will be held through online mode till further orders.
“There will not be any offline interaction or activity with the faculty, supervisors till further orders,” the notice reads.
The NIT has further ordered for closure of all hostels and postponed all the emanations as well.
“All the residential students will vacate the hostels immediately without any delay. Final year residential students are directed to complete their No Dues Certificate within next two to three days before vacating the hostels,” the notice reads.
The NIT has further barred the UG and PG day-scholars besides the research scholars from entering the premises till further orders.
“The minor examinations starting from April 26, 2021 are postponed and new dates will be announced soon,” the notice reads.
The NIT administration has further asked the Dean students welfare to ensure the closure of all hostels within one week while the Chairman of the hostel Mess Committee has been asked to ensure the closure of the Mess facility within one week.
“We decided to postpone the examinations and close the hostels and mess facilities of the institute given the surge in COVID-19 positive cases and positive cases were reported from the institute as well,” an official said.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department (HED) Ladakh Union Territory (UT) has ordered for suspension for physical class work in all the colleges and the University till April 30.
The decision was taken after the Ladakh UT reported around 250 COVID-19 positive cases including 236 cases from Leh and 14 from Kargil.
“On the basis of the COVID-19 assessment, it is hereby ordered that the classroom teaching in all the higher educational institutions in Ladakh shall remain suspended till April 30,” reads an order issued by secretary HED, Padma Angmo.
The department has directed all the Colleges, University and other higher educational institutes to shift to online classes during the closure period.
“However, the University, Colleges, institutes may decide to continue the on-going and forthcoming examinations as well as the laboratory work, research, internship requiring physical presence, with strict compliance of COVID-19 protocols, the order reads.
