Kolkata/IBNS: Due to restrictive measures on Zoom app use imposed by the Government of India, Behala College in south Kolkata started online digital classroom for its students, using its own server, recently.

The College has catered the need to its students through online education system called Learning Management System much before, and live digital classroom has been the newest technology addition.

Dr SharmilaMitra, Principal, Behala College, said, “Digital Classroom, on an independent platform was what I decided, from the very beginning.”

“This live digital class survives on the server that belongs to the college itself. In the future, this platform will also serve not only for classes but webinars like online out-reach activities,” she said.

She added that Professor Dr UjjainiMukhopadhyay, the IQAC Co-ordinator of the College and Rajib Mukherjee, owner of Right Brains Technology have successfully helped for the implementation and technological support of such.

The college initiated the move when the nation is under a lockdown to handle the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Indian Government on Thursday declared that the Zoom App is not a safe platform for video conferencing and issued a set of guidelines for the users.

"Zoom is not a safe platform even for usage of individuals a detailed advisory has already been issued by CERT-India," the home ministry said in a new advisory.

This comes as the entire world is turning largely to Zoom for carrying out 'work from home' amid the global coronavirus pandemic and a continuous lockdown in countries like India among others.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a set of guidelines for the safety of private users who "still would like to use Zoom for private purpose."

According to the guideline, unauthorised entry in the conference room and even malicious activity by authorised participants on terminals of the other participants should be prevented.
