Kolkata/IBNS: Revered, loved or feared, the tiger has always evoked a sense of awe among its beholders.

Few other animals have been an enigma to the world as the tiger.

Unfortunately, the number of tigers has fallen drastically over the past years till protective measures and awareness about its importance has stemmed the decrease and brought some sort of stability in the numbers.

Since 2010, July 29 has been observed as the Global Tiger Day, also called World Tiger Day.

To mark the day this year, Kolkata based elocutionist Korak Basu has conceptualised and directed a documentary titled ‘Bagher Din – The Day of the Tiger’, which will be released on the eve of the Global Tiger Day.

Said Basu, "I am a keen lover of wildlife and have been enthralled by this wonderful animal. There is always a need to protect the gems of nature and documentaries like this will help to raise awareness about the tiger and its conservation.

Poet Tanmoy Chakraborty has written the script while the visuals include stamps and first day covers from the collection of Jadavpur University student Srijon De Sarkar and excerpts describing experiences of wild encounters of Jim Corbett and others.

Palash Das has done the videography while music is scored by Soumendu Das.

Tiswa Dasgupta and Biswajit Roychowdhury also offered valuable inputs, Basu said in a release.

Aritra Roychowdhury, Director, Khukumoni Sindoor-Alta said, "We love to associate with such noble initiatives.  We aim to concentrate upon social as well as environmental issues. We do believe we must pay back to society in a meaningful way. This film is told in a very interesting manner."

The documentary, presented by Khukumoni Alta, will be released on ‘Korak Basu Creations' Facebook page on July 28, 2022, at 7 pm.
