Kolkata/IBNS: The concept - ‘Eat Healthy to Stay Healthy’ - has changed perceptions towards healthy living in urban India.

Ayurveda, and recent researches in Nutrition Sciences, have established the importance of food for preventing or curing various ailments.

Enhancing human immunity through a healthy diet in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic is now a top priority.

J.D.Birla Institute, Kolkata (affiliated to Jadavpur University) has taken an initiative to educate students on this subject by organizing a series of live webinars with Nutrition Science & Fitness experts.

India’s renowned Nutritionists and Educators - Dr. Shikha Sharma, Founder and MD of Dr Shikha’s NutriHealth; Deepti Gulati, Head of Programs at  Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and Kaizzad Cappadia, Principal of KII School of Fitness Sciences, joined the webinars and addressed various concepts pertaining to ‘food as medicine’.

The relationship was elucidated with amalgamation of concepts of Ayurveda and Nutrition by Dr Sharma, who enlightened the students on the role of food and nutrients in enhancing immunity.

The art of eating smart to prevent and cure co-morbidity and maintain a healthy lifestyle was explained at length by Gulati and fitness expert, M Cappadia.

In sync with the changing times, JD Birla Institute has set up the requisite infrastructure to carry forward its academic activities through the virtual platform.

Regular online classes are being conducted on the basis of especially-designated time tables created for each department.

The Covid-19 global pandemic has put an immense strain on the already overburdened educational systems across the country.

Students were given regular assignments by the professors. Apart from theory classes, professors also uploaded videos to demonstrate practical lessons to keep up with part of the practical curriculum.

Several webinar sessions were conducted by the college featuring renowned personalities and eminent speakers from the industry to encourage and motivate students with new thoughts and ideas to combat the global crisis. Topics ranging from economic and commercial perspectives to mental health and emotional well being were covered.

Besides academic activities, the college has initiated several interactive sessions such as quiz, debates and group discussions to enervate and enliven the intellectual spirit among the students.

Competitions were organized to encourage students to participate in creative do-it-yourself (DIY) videos.
