New Delhi/UNI: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has cancelled its examinations for secondary and senior secondary courses scheduled for March 2020.

Announcing this, Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' said Friday, "Just as we have taken all our decisions keeping in mind the health and interests of students, similarly the health of students studying from NIOS and keeping their interests in mind, we have decided to cancel these examinations. I once again want to assure all students and parents that the Government of India and the Ministry of Human Resource Development will work only for securing the future of all students."

Earlier these exams were to commence from March 24 and continue until April 24, 2020 but were rescheduled to July 17 in view of the Coronavirus outbreak.

In addition, experimental examinations were also stopped midway. Keeping in mind the health and the interests of the students, the competent committee of NIOS will evaluate the students on the basis of the evaluation plan.

More than 3.67 lakh students had registered for this exam. As many as 2.10 lakh students had registered for Senior Secondary examination and more than 1.5 lakh students had registered for Secondary level examination.

Apart from this, NIOS has also given the option of taking the next exams or on demand exams to improve the performance of the students. These examinations will be conducted when the conditions are favourable.
