Kolkata, Mar 23 (IBNS): Rotary Club of Calcutta organized the 12th edition of Swayam Siddha at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium, ICCR on Wednesday.

The genesis of the day can be traced back to then Russian capital Petrograd now known as St Petersburg when on March 8, when women protested on the streets of Moscow for the end of food shortages and Czarism.

Their success created a global movement and finally after 60 years of struggle in 1977 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 8 as the UN Day for women's rights and world peace.,

The recipients of the 12th edition included   social activist Kanta Chakraborty, Entrepreneur Sharmeela Chatterjee, mining industry entrepreneur Nandini Chakravorty, creative designer and visual artist Ekta Bhattacharjee, voice artist and elocutionist Madhumanti Maitra and performing artist and choreographer Tanusree Shankar.

The program was also attended by past Swayam Siddha recipients like Agnimitra Paul, Nandita Palchowdhury,Sanchita Bhattacharya and Jolly Chanda.

The musical program was graced by santoor legend Tarun Bhattacharya, percussion guru Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee and guitarist Vikramjit Tuki Banerjee.
