Rotary launches program for Skill Development of 30000 women across India

Kolkata, Feb 14 (IBNS): Rotary India Literacy Mission has launched the Skill Development program for widows, single mothers and their unmarried daughters.

The program was launched in Kolkata for the year 2019-2020 by Rotary International president Mark Daniel Maloney from the USA, said Shekhar Mehta, the chairman of Rotary India Literacy Mission.

The value of the project is Rs. 36 crores and the project will be completed in next four years, added Mehta.

Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar has started skill development of 1100 widows in West Bengal at a project value of Rs. 1.32 crores, said Chitra Agarwal, who is the president of Rotary Club of Calcutta Mahanagar.

The women will be skilled in trades like geriatric  care, child care, beautician, tailoring, customer relations for hotels, restaurants, malls etc.

Rotary Mahanagar will also help these women get jobs or start vocations.

The training will be done at different skilling centres across the state.

The program partners for implementation contracted by Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar are India’s leading organization in the field, Labornet and Emporium.

On the same day, Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar also launched the project for e-learning in 150 schools impacting nearly 40000 children.

Also launched was program for teachers training of 300 teachers. The value of these two projects is Rs. 70 lakhs, informed event chair Pranay Agarwal.

Rotary Calcutta Mahanagar will also convert 10 government schools into Happy Schools with facilities like safe drinking water, adequate toilets for boys and girls, safe and painted building, a library etc at a value of Rs. 60 lakhs.

Altogether Maloney launched  projects  worth Rs. 40 crores, informed Kamal Sanghvi, director of Rotary International.
