Rotary Literary Mission celebrates 50th International Literacy Day

Kolkata, Sept 9 (IBNS): The launch of the creation of 5000 libraries in Government and Government aided schools across India by Hon’ble Minister of HRD PrakashJavadekar marked the beginning of the nation-wide celebrations of the 50th International Literacy Day by Rotary India LiteracyMission (RILM).

The programme was attended by Chairman, RILM Shekhar Mehta, Sh. PramodJejuvikar (Past District Governor), Chief Operating Officer, RILM Aapga Singh, other senior Rotary leaders and school representatives.


Further, Rotary, Inner Wheel and Rotaract Clubs across India have dedicated themselves on this day to moving in leaps and bounds towards Total Literacy and Quality Education for India.


In line with RILM’s T-E-A-C-H program (Teacher Support, E-Learning, Adult Literacy, Child Development, Happy Schools), 751 Teachers have been awarded Nation Builder Awards, 6318 teachers have received training support, 1997 e-learning facilities and 416 libraries  have been provided in Government and Government aided schools, adult literacy classes have been started for 3194 adults, 1306 out-of-school children will be sent back to school and 202 Government and Government aided schools have been adopted for transformation into happy Schools.


The light of literacy was spread thus, in 13 states- Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgrah, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and 1 Union Territory- Delhi, of India.
